SELECTAPIV - PIV SYSTEM SELECTION TOOL

Introduction

  • This PIV system selection tool is suitable for dwellings which are not extraordinarily airtight i.e. they have an air permeability >3 m3/(h.m2) at 50 Pa. The vast majority of existing dwellings in the UK are not extraordinarily airtight and are therefore suitable for the use of this tool. If in doubt about this, please contact Homevent for advice.
  • This tool helps select the PIV unit or units required to provide the "Whole Dwelling Ventilation Rate" and, if required, any PIV system enhancement extract fans that may be required in "Wet Rooms" of the dwelling to optimise performance. "Wet Rooms" include kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms, shower rooms, en-suites and WC’s.
  • The tool can be used to select equipment that will contribute towards "Adequate Ventilation" for the people only in the dwelling based on an assumed "average" moisture generation and "normal" heating level. This being helpful in selecting equipment that can contribute towards compliance with the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act.
  • The tool can also be used make a more household specific equipment selection taking into account any animals which live in the property, a more representative assessment of the actual level of moisture generation in the home and how well the dwelling is heated.
  • The tool will not select the required, or assess any existing, "Purge Ventilation" measures such as openable windows and external doors. Nor will it select the required, or assess any existing, internal "Air Transfer" provisions such as suitable sized internal door undercuts provisions within a dwelling. As with any ventilation system strategy, these should be considered carefully by the system designer to ensure they are adequate.

Positive Input Ventilation System Enhancement Extract Fans Selection

You have indicated that you do not wish a selection to be made for any PIV enhancement extract fans in any "Wet Rooms" where the installation of such fans would normally be highly recommended to be installed in conjunction with a PIV unit or units.

You have indicated that there is 1 "Wet Room" are {{inputs.wet_rooms_without_window}} "Wet Rooms" in the dwelling without an openable window or door to outside. To optimise the performance of the PIV unit or units selected we would highly recommend the installation of a Homevent MORI dMEV II HT extract fan in each of these Wet Rooms with each this Wet Room with the fan set on its lowest background airflow setting.

On its lowest background airflow setting the fan will have an electrical power consumption of approximately 1 Watt. Important note regarding PIV systems and extract fans

Any existing extract fans installed in “Wet Rooms” of a dwelling are unlikely to have an adverse effect on a PIV system, however, in line with best practice guidance, the total combined background airflow of all continuously running extract fans in a dwelling should not exceed 40% of the normal airflow mode setting of a PIV unit or units in the dwelling.
